How Can I Use My Business Cards to Stand Out?

What is the most affordable and versatile marketing tool available? Your business card. Surprised? In everyday business scenarios and networking events, a well-designed, informative card builds business and having different business cards will get you remembered.

You only have one chance to make a good first impression. This is very true of business cards. This is often the first impression a potential client has of your company. Is the card getting the message you want across or is it landing in the trash?

Clients will judge you and how well or poorly you might treat them by the quality of the business card you hand out. Your business card represents you so, don't spoil the good impression you've made in person by handing someone a homemade card. Have your cards professionally printed so that prospective clients will see that your products and services are not second-rate. You only have one shot at a good first impression and your business card can say it all.

We use business cards as a part of our normal marketing plan. Have several cards made up with you doing different things. I have cards that show me golfing, fishing, hunting, flying and working at my desk. One of the most remembered is of Dennis and I on the beach. A couple of examples appear below:

You can use the cards in sales when visiting the office of a new or prospective client. Look at the variety of magazines found in their reception area to identify their areas of interest, such as golfing, fishing, running or motorcycling. Even if you don't play golf, have a golf card made up so you can talk about their game. Before using this technique, make sure that you at least have some knowledge of the activity. When you can hand a client a business card that relates to their interests, you are not talking business, but building a relationship. Remember, sales is not about the product as much as it is about the relationship. The friendlier you are, the easier it is to do business with you.

Innovative and interesting business cards will also help you build your brand. You want to set yourself apart from the other laboratories and being creative will always set you apart. First impressions are the ones that count - they are the longest-lasting and the hardest to change. Invest in the best business card design you can afford. Introducing yourself to a potential client is much easier with a business card and for the few cents you pay per card it is money well spent.

So remember, when it comes to business cards, do not leave home without them. You never know when or where you might get the opportunity to snag a new customer.
