Milling and Grinding with a Single Machine – DATRON D5

The new milling / grinding machine DATRON D5 is available since September 2010. It combines the advantages of industrial production systems such as precision, high performance and speed with small space requirements enabling convenient installation in the dental laboratory. The innovative milling and grinding machine offers the user maximum flexibility during efficient production of dental restorations. This is in part due to compatibility with any other CAD/CAM components with open interfaces.

DATRON D5 is suited for milling as well as grinding and thus capable of processing non-precious metal, titanium, zirconia, glass ceramics, nano composites, PMMA, wax as well as cast materials. Thanks to 5 axis simultaneous machining, even complex designs can be implemented with high precision. Yet, the novel machine weights just 880 kg and – due to its slim dimensions of 79 x 190 x 115 cm – fits through any standard door frame. Excellent machining precision is enabled by its build-up, which is characterized by high stiffness and low vibration, as well as a compact rotary swivel axis that is embedded on two sides, a 1.8 kW precision spindle and high-quality ball screws and guidances. The ease of use of the milling / grinding machine is ensured by innovative details such as a demountable Apple iPad with touch screen which allows e.g. for job loading as well as control operation even from a distance. Moreover, the user is supported by an intelligent job, blank and tool automation system. The tool changing unit is equipped with 13 positions, the optional blank automation is capable of storing eight blanks. In addition, DATRON D5 stands out due to its highly esthetic, awarded design.
