Heraeus Kulzer, Inc. Names New North American President
Heraeus Kulzer, Inc., the North American dental subsidiary of Heraeus Kulzer GmbH announced recently the promotion of Christopher Holden to the position of president. Holden has served with Heraeus Kulzer in numerous positions over his four plus years and most recently as vice president, head of dentistry division.
Heraeus Kulzer, with its global head office in Hanau, Germany has 1,600 employees worldwide with affiliates in the U.S., Europe and Asia. The company is a systems provider and service partner for dentists and dental technicians. Heraeus, the precious metals and technology group headquartered in Hanau, Germany, is a global, private company in the business segments of precious metals, dental health, sensors, quartz glass, and specialty lighting sources. It has revenues of 8.3 billion euros and more than 9,800 employees.

Bob Dodd Named NDX Person of the Year
Bob Dodd received National Dentex's highest award for his success in developing the management teams within his laboratory group.
The Person of the Year award is presented annually to the manager that has made the most significant contributions in the previous year. Members of Dodd's group of dental laboratories are Gene Thomas (Dodd Dental Laboratories, Wilmington, Del.), Bob and Fred Fox (Fox Dental Laboratory, Tampa, Fla.), John Sebring (Ito and Koby Dental Studio, Indianapolis, Ind.), Lee Gorham (Smith Dental Prosthetics, Jacksonville, Fla.) and Jim Higgins (Top Quality Partials, Apopka, Fla.).
He and his brother, Jim, established one of the nations most respected and successful dental laboratories in Wilmington, Del. He joined National Dentex 13 years ago when Dodd Dental Laboratories affiliated with NDX.
"Bob not only leads a growing and very successful group of our laboratories, but he's also done a terrific job of developing the present and future leaders of National Dentex", Dave Brown, president and CEO of National Dentex Corporation, stated during the award presentation. "Bob has the innate ability to develop managers. He did it when he managed Dodd Dental Laboratory and now he's accomplishing it on a larger scale with every manager and team leader in his group."

NADL and NBC Meet With Brazil Association
NADL and NBC officers met with representatives of the Association of Dental Technicians of S„o Paulo, Brazil. The dental technician profession and industry in Brazil put on one of the worlds largest dental technology meetings every two years. In an effort to share ideas on dental technician education, business challenges, technician and laboratory regulatory compliance issues and technology, the three organizations met in Chicago to discuss how we can maintain an open communication channel to help each others organization. Additionally, NADL members including Distinctive Dental Studio, CDL, in Naperville, Ill., and Americus Labs in Jamaica, N.Y., hosted APDESP President Roberto Quiyan and director of international affairs Claudia Pereira so they could see first hand U.S. Laboratories. Leaders with the Dental Laboratory Association of New York hosted Quiyan and Pereira after the Chicago Midwinter Meetings to show them some New York dental laboratories.

Issaquah Dental Lab and Milling Center announced recently that it has completed a merger with NovaDent, Inc., whereby the shareholders of Issaquah have partnered with the founders of NovaDent and Birch Hill Equity Partners. The purpose of the partnership is to create, through further mergers and acquisitions, a network of high-quality dental laboratories which leverage the latest technologies and are committed to providing the highest quality of products and services to dentists as well as unaffiliated smaller dental laboratories.
Dr. Maha Ahmad has joined the department of oral biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.
DentalEZ Group appointed Jim Henry to the position of territory sales manager.
Western States Conference, Inc., congratulates the following recipients of the WSC Inc. Competitive Grants:
- California Dental Laboratory Association - A $1,000 grant to help sponsor Dr. John Wu, California State University, Monterey Bay, as the keynote speaker for the October 2005 CDLA meeting.
- Washington State Dental Laboratory Association - A $1,000 grant to develop a new logo for WSDLA with a logo contest open to Washington residents only.
- Idaho State Dental Laboratory Association - A $2,500 grant to provide a newsletter and information to members. The ISDLA wants to help the Idaho State University laboratory technology students attend the Western States Conference Reno meeting, also.
- Arizona Dental Laboratory Association - A $2,500 grant for co-sponsoring the Western Regional Dental Convention, which will be matched by the Arizona Dental Association.
- Oregon Association of Dental Laboratories - A $2,500 grant to sponsor a keynote speaker, Dr. John Sorenson.
- Association of Dental Laboratories of Hawaii - A $500 grant to help bolster membership through co-sponsorship of a keynote speaker on removables.
