As we strive to improve our labs performance, it is good practice to look inside at our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. That is usually the first step in traditional strategic planning, internal evaluation.
The process of corrective action (CAPA) and root cause analysis (RCA) isn’t easy to swallow at first. However, now that quality systems are maturing and lab owners are seeing the positive results, I don’t think you could take that money-saving process away from them. There’s always room for improvement though so let’s look closer at root cause analysis and give you some things to think about as far as the depth of your investigation into root cause.

I have received several inquiries by individuals interested in selling their business so I thought this an appropriate forum to offer some thoughts. There are four very important rules to remember when you enter into this arena.

It’s critical that you have a winning team to ensure that the emphasis is not on individual accomplishments but rather shared responsibility and success. This team may have a limited life. Once the quality system is in place, then you’ll need to decide the future plans for the team.
