Murphy's Law: Pankey Wants to Help You Grow Your Laboratory
Several of the current continuing education arenas and institutes have dental laboratory channel partners or their own facilities in house. Many of my friends have found that makes them less attractive as locations to support or send their dentist clients to go for continuing dental education. The non-profit Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne Florida remains an ally to dental laboratories everywhere. Pankey trained dentists do more comprehensive care, have larger monthly lab bills and higher demands on predictable results.
To help develop the relationship, Pankey has allowed laboratory technicians to train side by side with dentists in their continuum of courses. In the old days, there was a technician’s only course. Now technicians learn alongside dentists and do the same exercises and projects. Only when it comes to direct patient (participant partners) contact is there any variance to what is allowed. My good friend Bob Ingrassio, CDT, from Rochester, N.Y., is the first technician to complete the entire Essentials continuum at Pankey and has been invited back as a visiting faculty. Our executive co-director Ricki Braswell, CAE, is on the board of directors (as am I) and several laboratory owners serve as advisors to the Institute (Philip Gold CDT, Paul Westbrook, CDT; Hal Jones, CDT; Bill Connell, CDT; and Matt Roberts. Pretty cool stuff.
So here’s the good part. Several friends of mine have attended E1 at Pankey in the last few years. It does three things.
- Starts an excellent education on how Pankey dentists think and practice.
- Initiates friendships with the 15-23 other participants in the class.
- Allows you to join the alumni assoc. and become part of a broad community of like minded dental professionals.
It gets even better. Starting sometime next year, The NADL in co-operation with Pankey is going to roll out a new special tuition program opportunity for a technician and dentist to attend together. Think about it. If you had a good client who was striving to be great, you could lend a guiding hand and share the journey with them. All for much less than two tuitions…and it includes your rooms. Talk about engaged customer loyalty for life!
Watch for ads from Pankey and The NADL in 2011 in JDT and jump on it.
There will be a limited number of E1 classes each year.
