Meet NADL Member David Avery, CDT
David Avery, CDT, is a bridge between two connected, but differing worlds: that of the laboratory technician and of the dentist. He gives more than 50 lectures a year to dental undergraduate and graduate students to give them insight into the value of a laboratory technician. In addition, he speaks to dental assistants and hosts them at Drake Dental Laboratory, CDL, DAMAS, in Charlotte, N.C., where he's worked for a quarter of a century. He's no stranger to the dental technician lecture circuit either or to mentor a technician.
Recently, he sat down with JDT Unbound to tell us a little about himself.
What is your favorite thing about being in the dental laboratory profession?
The constant evolution of technology.
What are your favorite type of cases to work on and why?
Complex combination fixed/removable implant involved cases. The planning required to execute the case properly with coordination of the numerous appointments and the required clinical and laboratory procedures.
What is the the most rewarding thing about being an NADL member/CDT/CDL?
Professional development and recognition of achievement.

So many people past and present. Chief among them, John Ness, CDT; Dr. Richard Wilson; Dr. Gordon Christensen; as well as Nick and Lou Azzarra just to name a few.
What do you do when you're not on the clock?
Enjoy time with my family, especially in the Caribbean!
