Dear Ms. Marketing: I am looking for a way to increase revenue do you have any suggestions?
I have some that may not have crossed you mind. Unused space in your business costs you money without adding to your bottom line. Someone may be desperate for space and willing to rent yours. Some companies have separate entrance and unused training rooms that added nothing to revenue but cost in terms of insurance and utilities. They have rented these spaces to other companies and it is a winning situation for both.
A parking lot that is bigger than you need could be rented to nearby business for their employees. An empty office or desk in your building might be able to be rented to a young businessperson who needs a place to meet clients but can’t afford to rent an entire building.
Extra space in your warehouse can be rented for storage to other companies that are overcrowded.
If you are getting into digital photography or imaging for your local accounts you may want to set up a section of your laboratory for the patients to come by and make a separate business out of this service. Once again, you win and your doctors can take advantage of this new technology without a lot of expense on their end. You can use this for a training tool to teach their staff about shade taking and photography. You can let them know you are their partner and want to help grown their business which will in turn help grow yours.
If you have a local university that offers dentistry you could offer some study classes in the evenings at your laboratory to help the future dentist become better at their skills. Once again, this will help you and when these dentists graduated from medical school they will have to send their work somewhere. We have the hygienists from our local technical school tour the laboratory. We have a new group every quarter and when they get a job in a dentist office I am marketing on the fact that they will remember me. We give them a little goody bag to take with them.
Another way to help generate more revenue and save at the same time could be to share out of town routes with different companies. Also, if you do run an out of town route, you may want check with UPS or FedEx to see if it maybe less expense to use these carriers as oppose to ware and ‘tire’ on your company car. It is less personal but some accounts may like it better. It will free up your technician to do other jobs inside the laboratory.
There are many different ways to save and to earn more. Take a look around your business and imagine the possibilities. You should never be afraid to try something new. Remember a lone amateur built the Ark, but a large group of professionals built the Titantic.
